CFDA Fashion Awards: Beyonce Receives The Fashion Icon Award
The Counsel Of Fashion Designers has given the Fashion Icon title to stars like Rihanna, Kate Moss, Sarah Jessica Parker, Pharrell Williams and more -- all stars with truly unique, and memorable styles. This year, the award was given to none other than Queen Bey, a fitting recipient for this prestigious award.
Beyonce wore a stunning crystal stripped Givenchy suit to the awards, along with a wide-brimmed hat. The hat has quickly become a signature look for the singer, as it's one of the staple pieces in her Formation World Tour.
Diane von Furstenberg, fashion designer, presented the award to the singer saying, “The image of a woman in charge has never looked more glamorous or desirable. She is everything all women want to be.” And this couldn't be more true -- Bey is more than fitting for this award.
Beyonce's style has always been a style inspiration, even from her early days. In her acceptance speech, she reveals her mom, Tina Knowles, was the person behind all of her costumes in the beginning of Destiny's Child. She said, "My mother and my uncle, God rest his soul, made all of our first costumes, individually sewing hundreds of crystals and pearls, putting so much passion and love into every small detail." And that's what fashion is all about -- having a passion and love for the industry is what really makes style special. Queen Bey also revealed that her clothes made her feel like the 'Game Of Thrones' character, Khaleesi, saying "I had an extra suit of armor. It was so much deeper than any brand name."
Check out her whole speech here.
Fashion is so much deeper than a brand. Clothing is supposed to make us feel, and it should express who we really are. It's clear from Beyonce's speech that she agrees, and that fashion is truly dear to her heart.
The Fashion Icon Award couldn't have gone to anyone more deserving. This year has been huge for the singer, and she's truly been such an inspiration to women -- not only because of her fierce style, but also because of her music, and her courage to empower other women. Beyonce puts her all into her art; and when it comes to fashion, it's no different. So, we're really not surprised she was presented this award this year.
